Skating pair proves Olympians can throw a baseball

Share

An Olympic medal doesn’t help much when it comes to throwing out the first pitch at a Major League Baseball game.

Just ask Jordyn Wieber, who bounced her attempt at a Detroit Tigers game. Or basketball star Diana Taurasi, who threw an outside pitch to the screen at Chase Field in Arizona.

Even the great Carl Lewis fared so poorly in his first two attempts at MLB parks that he ended up sprinting the ball across home plate before a Louisiana State game.

So give credit to Felicia Zhang and Nate Bartholomay, a recently retired figure skating pair who did the honors at the Tampa Bay Rays’ Tropicana Field this week.

Standing just in front of the mound, Bartholomay hoisted Zhang into the air as if they were in the middle of a long program. She then delivered a looping pitch right on target.

The judges had to be impressed.
